Nobbs Suzuki Praxis

Nobbs Suzuki Praxis is a physical and vocal training method for performers of all sorts.

Created initially by Tadashi Suzuki, well known theater director from Japan, using exercises based on the traditional Japanese No and Kabuki theater, this training started out very much rooted in the masculine energy (disciplined, striving, controled, focused, driven etc.). Along came Australian modern dancer/dance teachers/choreographers John Nobbs and Jacqui Carroll adding the missing Yin to the Yang. Using the traditional Suzuki Method of Actors Training (SMAT) to train the actors of their own company (Ozfrank Theater Company www.ozfrank.com) they added a equally strong focus on the use of intuition, softness, feeling, listening, responding etc. and developed a broad selection of exercises that allow the trainee to experiment, among many other things, with balancing these opposites.
